Statement for Council Election
The main objective of EATCS is
to facilitate the exchange of ideas and results among theoretical computer scientists as well as to stimulate cooperation between the theoretical and the practical community in computer science.
I have been a member of the EATCS Council since 2008 and, if re-elected,
I will be happy to serve for another term.
Very briefly, these are my main goals for the next term,
if I am re-elected,:
- to strongly affirm the role in the scientific community at large
and the perception in the general public of Computer Science as a Science
and not as a mere technological discipline;
- to maintain the high scientific standards of our flagship conference
and to enlarge the publication options of our members.
In recognition of a growing community, EATCS should consider the
possibility of starting a second general conference similar to ICALP
- to cooperate with funding agencies to improve the perception of the
research in Theoretical Computer Science and to influence the design of
the long term agenda of the agencies by highlighting the conceptual contributions of our discipline and their technological impact.
